At Warren Academy, through our Physical Education curriculum, we aim to give pupils the opportunity to learn and enjoy Physical Education in a range of forms. We want our children to know how to keep their bodies and minds healthy and fit and feel that this is extremely important due to modern day lifestyles becoming more sedentary and the high rates of obesity and mental health concerns which are now being seen within the United Kingdom. We also want our pupils to understand how to compete positively with one another whilst evaluating and improving their own and others performances across physical activities. We believe that the social aspect of Physical Education is vitally important at Warren Academy and feel that this supports children’s ability to work positively with others as well as their understanding of how to react appropriately when winning or losing.
We strive to ensure that the subject specific vocabulary and terminology required within Physical Education runs through all lessons and believe that this is a key element in developing children’s understanding of their bodies and health (both physical and mental). Therefore at Warren Academy, we have an exceptional duty of care to ensure that children become proficient in dance, competitive games, gymnastics, athletics and outdoor adventures. We aim to provide our children with meaningful experiences where they will have the opportunity to learn about and enjoy physical education.
Through our teaching we consistently aim to raise awareness of Physical Education as a subject and as a potential career field for the future. Children should leave our school knowing the many different potential career prospects that Physical Education supports. Careers which are inherently linked with the subject and also those which use the skills that Physical Education as a subject teaches as these skills can be applied so widely.
At Warren Academy you will see children who are excited by Physical Education as a subject and eager to learn more whilst evaluating and improving their current skills. They will be fully invested in the purpose of their learning and engaged throughout. Our children will not be limited by their starting points, life experiences or individual needs. We will bring the experiences and opportunities to them.
The national curriculum for Physical Education aims to ensure that all pupils:
